One News Page is a cloud-native news intelligence platform that turns fragmented publisher reporting into live multi-source stories, persistent topic dossiers, and searchable coverage history. I designed and built it end to end—from ingestion and AI-assisted story systems to search, public UX, and Mission Control.

Experience

A news platform built to turn constant change into a coherent picture.

News rarely arrives as one complete account. It breaks across publishers, places, and time zones, then changes as evidence emerges. One News Page turns that flow into structured coverage: identifying related reports, grouping them into evidence-led stories, and preserving the connection between current developments and what came before.

The experience prioritises understanding over volume. A live editorial front page establishes what matters now; precision-first search spans current stories, topic dossiers, and earlier coverage; and every story shows its source and reference depth. Readers can move naturally from a headline to its evidence, wider event, and recent news record.

Live editorial hierarchy

A prioritised homepage combines the lead story, News Radar, briefings, top stories, and current coverage without reducing the experience to an endless feed.

Precision-first search

Hybrid search combines direct editorial relevance with high-confidence semantic discovery. It tolerates common misspellings, preserves shareable query URLs, and never pads results with unrelated stories.

Evidence-led stories

Story dossiers expose contributing publishers, reference depth, coverage signals, and concise context so readers can see how each story has been assembled.

Persistent context

Topic dossiers hold concurrent developments and earlier coverage together, preserving continuity as individual stories move through the news cycle.

How the platform was designed, hardened, and shipped.

A live publishing architecture separating operational news processing from fast, static public delivery.

One News Page separates live news processing from public delivery. A Worker-based backend ingests publisher feeds, persists operational state in D1, generates and verifies media, builds search records, and publishes immutable snapshot documents to R2. The Astro frontend is statically generated and served from Cloudflare Pages, so public traffic never queries the operational database at runtime.

Story intelligence combines deterministic rules with bounded AI assistance. Persistent event families allow related developments to coexist without being forced into one oversized story, while evidence-ownership rules protect source integrity. Search follows the same philosophy: Cloudflare’s hybrid retrieval expands discovery, but ONP’s lexical relevance, confidence thresholds, and deterministic catalogue fallback remain authoritative.

The platform was hardened for continuous unattended operation. Time budgets, concurrency limits, retry state, compare-and-swap activation, deployment signatures, and health contracts make publication observable and recoverable. An Access-protected Mission Control surface turns those safeguards into a practical operations cockpit.
