Chapter II
Labyrinth of Shadows
Beyond the chamber, the passage divided. She chose one corridor, then another, marking her route so she could return. But the labyrinth refused to remain still. A turning she remembered led somewhere new; a doorway appeared where there had been bare stone. Once, footsteps ahead matched her own exactly.
The deeper she travelled, the less the place felt like a prison. Its changing paths were not preventing her escape. They were guiding her.
At last she stopped marking the walls, stopped counting the turns, and surrendered to the rhythm beneath the stone. She stopped looking for the way back.
