Chapter VIII
Vow of Silence
When the light faded, dawn had entered the world. Whether she had returned to the surface or the final chamber had changed around her, she could not tell. Darkness had become pale blue; stone reflected the faintest gold; unseen water moved somewhere beyond the haze.
Questions remained: who had made the Codex, whose memories she carried, what she had become. She asked none of them. Some truths diminished when reduced to answers.
She stopped beside the water and watched the first light spread across its surface. The ember remained beneath her skin. The labyrinth remained within her memory. Deeper still, the pattern endured.
There was no final revelation. Only silence. And this time, the silence was enough.
